Pri-Med 2017

Posted 5 years, 8 months ago

OK.  So I'm sitting here at the Pri-Med conference in the International Centre at booth 2254.  It's a great location, right by the entrance... but boy, do I feel this will be my last conference booth.

But that's a good thing!

The specs are in for version 2.0 with a new programmer and, along with that, will come a larger presence on social media.  I guess I 'missed the boat' by not having a great presence on Facebook.  But it's coming.

If you're at Pri-Med, come by and say 'Hello'.  We have an extra squishy carpet you can bounce on (or trip over).

We are meeting lots of great people here so come by and be one of them.

Is it really 2015?

Posted 7 years, 9 months ago

Yes, LocumsOntario is alive and well.  Every day new users are registering – Both posting and hunting for Locum opportunities.  Recently, I have taken a break from the conference circuit and have just been letting the website work its magic.

So, what's happening with LocumsOntario?

I have recently met with a new programmer and we are working on version 2.  This version will include better communication with users, more feedback options, and additional parameters such as indicating whether the Locum is in a Francophone community.

I also will be simplifying the terms of use for those posting Locum ads and better indicators for how often your ads are visited.

It is clear that LocumsOntario works.

Get the word out.  Tell your colleagues.  Use the site.

Hope to see you soon.

Update for Spring 2013

Posted 9 years, 9 months ago

So what's been happening with LocumsOntario over the last five months?  The site is growing daily with new registered users browsing and creating ads for Locum placements.  Matches are happening and hopefully the doctors of Ontario are just that much happier.

LocumsOntario has had booths at the Primary Care Updates conferences in Toronto at the end of 2012 and at the OMA general council meeting in Hamilton last week.  Very positive reactions were received from the physicians of all specialties that came to the booth.   So many of the specialties have moved away from using Locums in their practices for various reasons.  I am hoping that LocumsOntario is the reason to get back to Locuming again.

Meetings were held with representatives from the OMA and Roz Smith, the CEO of HealthForceOntario about sponsoring LocumsOntario.   Phone discussions with the CMA.  Right now, all are hesitant to move ahead despite acknowledging the achievements that LocumsOntario has had since going live in September 2012.

PAIRO's spring newsletter came out that included such a wonderful write-up about LocumsOntario.  I really am indebted to PAIRO for recognizing the potential of LocumsOntario as a major force for life post residency.

This weekend is the large Primary Care Today conference in Toronto and LocumsOntario will be there with a booth.  Come visit us at booth 825.  LocumsOntario will also be at the OCFP Annual Scientific Assembly in Toronto in November.

A Successful Conference and Job Fair Tour!

Posted 10 years, 2 months ago

I am so happy to announce that LocumsOntario's tour of regional conferences and Ontario Family Medicine Residency program Job Fairs was a complete success.

The conference for the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario (AFHTO) in October was a great way to demonstrate the power of LocumsOntario to the over 60 FHT's in operation around the province.  And I must thank the Primary Care Updates Conference organizers for being so supportive of LocumsOntario.  They very quickly recognized the altruistic nature of this project and its benefits to Ontario's Physicians and made it so easy to show off the site to the attendees.

The Family Medicine Forum in November was a HUGE affair with over 4,000 delegates from around the country.  I was approached by numerous other booth staff hoping to forge an alliance with LocumsOntario and spread it across North America!  I had a great meeting with the President of the SGFP and the CEO of HealthForceOntario.  I also had offers from BC delegates encouraging me to expand the project to their province.  The Nurse Practitioners in attendance also suggested that I set up a similar site for the province's NPs.

It was also great to recruit my family members to help man the booth.  It makes it so much more fun to work with people you love.

Through the fall, I also attended the Job Fairs for the Family Medicine Programs at UofT, UofO and UWO.  The residents were ecstatic that they finally had a great place to FIND LOCUMS PLACEMENTS when they graduate.  So many of them registered to LocumsOntario right on the spot.

I hope to be invited to meet with the residents at Queens, McMaster and NOSM in the future.

In the spring I will be hosting a booth at the Primary Care conference in Toronto.

See you there!

LocumsOntario on the Move!

Posted 10 years, 4 months ago

I am proud to announce that LocumsOntario is gaining momentum.

I have heard nothing but positive feedback both from Doctors and prospective Locum Physicians I have spoken to.  Though it's still early after the launch of the website, the number of registered users has now surpassed the 150 mark.

Articles about LocumsOntario have been published in the Sept 18th Medical Post and the September Ontario Medical Review.

I had a great reception from Family Medicine Residents at the month's UofT Practice Management Day and I will be meeting with Family Medicine Residents at upcoming job fairs and retreats for the University of Ottawa and UWO.

I have been invited to host an information booth at the upcoming fall conference for the Association of Family Health Teams of Ontario (AFHTO), two Primary Care Updates and the Family Medicine Forum in Toronto.

Remember, LocumsOntario is not just for Family Physicians.  All physician specialties are welcome to participate!

I look forward to meeting with you all in the near future.

PAIRO recognizes LocumsOntario!

Posted 10 years, 6 months ago

In a bold decision by their Council, PAIRO - the Professional Association of Internes and Residents of Ontario - has recognized LocumsOntario as a valuable asset to it senior and graduating members.

PAIRO president, Dr. Jonathan DellaVedova will be advertising the site to PAIRO members in their Fall/Winter newsletter.  There is also now a link to LocumsOntario on the PAIRO website.

There is not doubt that LocumsOntario will become a valuable asset to PAIRO members in coming years, just as PAIRO members are a valuable asset to LocumsOntario.

Let's hope this is the beginning of a great relationship together.

The Story of LocumsOntario

Posted 10 years, 6 months ago

As a Doctor, I became tired of struggling to find a Locum every time I wished to go away with my family or attend a CME event.

Sure, my colleagues could cover my practice for a time, and I could direct my patients to our after-hours clinic – but, when I returned, there was always that pile of reports to review and list of phone calls to make. And then there was that feeling of guilt that I was taking advantage of my partners who perhaps, did not travel as much. And of course, the week I got back was a zoo. It seemed that all of my patients were just piling up their problems, waiting for my reappearance. It made being away from my office more trouble than it was worth.

Getting a Locum was always a hassle. The OMA used to host a website for bringing Locum Physicians together with Doctors, but they shut that down some years ago, after it became too cumbersome to administer. HealthForceOntario lets me post an advertisement, but they are more interested in the underserviced areas of the province – Not where I live. My best bet was always word-of-mouth. Typically, I could find one or two young physicians making their way through a series of my colleagues' offices. Unfortunately, they were often overbooked and I could never get them for the dates I wished.

This is why I designed LocumsOntario!  Finally, a site that is here truly for the Doctors of Ontario! LocumsOntario is not sponsored by a large telecommunications company (out fishing for my email address), nor the pharmaceutical industry (hoping I will prescribe their name-brand drug while pretending they have my best interests at heart). The goal this website is simple – To get interested Locum Physicians matched to Doctors in need. It does this by encouraging Locum Physicians to register and browse advertisements created by Doctors. It allows Doctors to advertise for free but allows them to promote their advertisement for better visibility. Moreover, LocumsOntario provides a true match process that notifies the Doctor when a Locum Physician has listed availability and preferences that are similar their own.

That's it. Your information will never be shared and you will never get unsolicited junk mail from our site. You will get email notifications when a possible match has registered and reminder emails when your advertisement is about to expire. Simple. I am very proud of LocumsOntario. I know you will be happy with it too.
